Legend of Solgard Launch Campaign

The fiery hero, Embla, and her crew of misfit warriors rises up to save the world from icy oblivion. The first mid-core title launched by King, Legend of Solgard, is a game from Snowprint Studios, published under the ‘King Black’ label.

We worked with an external production studio, Expanse, to develop some great characters and create an epic cinematic game trailer for this campaign. I was able to step in from King's side of the production as a Look Development Lead for a few weeks. During this time I worked closely with Expanse and the concept artists on the development on several key characters, while making sure the vision of the campaign video director and art director, Brand, and the game team was being seen through.

Embla

 The initial sculpt of Embla done by another artist. It was a great start to developing her character but she needed further refinement to push her appeal and youth.

Roughpaw

Roughpaw

Roughpaw was quite a tricky character to get right. The main challenge was to make sure he was still a bear while maintaining his character.

The Elfling was already in a really good place when I came on board, but I guided the artist through some small modeling tweaks to push some appeal into the face.

'Making of' Embla

'Making of' Embla

In addition to the characters, I also directed and edited this ‘Making of’ video for the social channels. Despite the challenges, having limited screen recordings of the game team’s work as well as filming with an iphone, I am happy with how we were able to highlight the team and their character process without becoming overly technical or lengthy.
